A lot of times disappointments come in our walk with the Lord. It may be that the Lord permitted them or they may be of our own making. I admit that sometimes I get my hopes up so high and then when they are dashed
I find myself getting in what is known in Pilgrims Progress as the Slough of Despondancy. I hate that place! If you aren't careful you will find yourself slipping deeper and deeper. Then you will start feeling sorry for yourself and wonder how you got there in the first place. ~ But, thank God, there is a way out!
When I look up ~ I find the Lord looking down and reaching out His Hand for me to take. He so lovingly gets us out of the muck and mire of despair and places us in a place where we can worship Him and depend on Him to show us the way. I wish I would learn the first time that it is not a good place to be. But every so often the Lord has to remind me that I am wondering out of the way.
I read somewhere this quote: Discouragement is to the soul what arsenic is to the body.. It kills. So when I find myself getting discouraged I try to dwell on the positive things in life. I also find myself quoting more scripture and like the Psalmist: Delight myself in the Lord. I glad I serve a God that knows we are human and is always ready to help us in our despair. Just putting these words down have already lifted my spirits.
When I write I do a lot of thinking and by the time I am through~ I am on a more positive note, thinking of what my God has done in the past and I anticipate what He is going to do. He is my Friend! I am so glad.

So true! I find myself the same way, discouragement just grows and grows until I do something about it and remind myself how wonderful God has been to me and that He is with me during the good times and the bad! Hope you're having a great weekend!!!

Yes, I've been in that slough too....more times than I care to remember, and like you, when I finally come through it, I wonder why I ever allowed myself to sing so deep. But the Lord is so longsuffering isn't matter how many times, he is always there with an outstretched hand waiting for us to grab on!
You've been such an encouragement to me, Aliene. I'm praying for you!

I've been in my garden all day, turning over soil, breaking it up in my hands (winter gloves on,lol), pulling weeds and PRAISING, PRAISING AND PRAISING our Lord.

Thank you so much for visiting. I read your side profile and you and I have SO many interests....Blessed day precious sister.

Amen Great Post :)
I have a note book that I have put together with verses I will need. I have put titles, like discouragement, anger, ect then I have it handy to go to when I need to remember God's promises and commands :)

in times of discoragement and disappointment is when I say as often and I need my favorite bible verse. Ps 18:1 " I will love thee, oh Lord my strength".

I love "Philippians 4:6-7" every time I am facing trials. The Lord shows His faithfulness from the past trials I had overcome. To Him be the glory.
Just want to thank you for visiting me. I enjoyed your post so I'm going to sign in to follow :) God bless.

Yes, we must stay possitive in Jesus. It helps me to remember what He has done for me.
It´s amazing and overwhelming!
I also have come to learn that a pitty party is nothing more than pridefulness on my part. I have to just get over it and allow the Lord to lift me up.
He wants us humble. Only then can He lift us up.
We are memorizing with the boys...
"Humble youself in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up."
Thank you for this post, as we all need to be reminded of the dangers of disappointment and depression.
Too many like to live in these states.
